Featured Event: Join us Friday, February 20, as we celebrate Black History Month with a presentation by Dr. Bennett Parten on "Sherman's March: A Journey Toward Freedom," drawn from his acclaimed book Somewhere Toward Freedom: Sherman's March and the Story of America's Largest Emancipation. Parten reframes the 1864 march as the largest liberation event in American history, told through the stories of the enslaved who followed Sherman's army toward freedom. Dinner at 6:30 pm, presentation at 7:15 pm. Virtual attendance available via Zoom (please join by 7:00 pm).
President's Message: Mo Becker marks the midpoint of Campaign 67 — already planning Campaign 68 — and celebrates a strong six months: a sold-out spring field trip, member support that fuels our battlefield preservation work, and 20 new members recruited since July.
Spring Field Trip Update: Our May 2, 2026 trip to South Mountain — Crampton's Gap, Turner's Gap, and Fox's Gap with guide Dennis E. Frye — remains sold out, with six now on the waiting list. Contact Steve Williamson to be added.
Upcoming Programs: Preview the rest of Campaign 67, including Rev. Dr. Nancy Jill Hale on Union Chaplains at Gettysburg (Mar. 13), Steven Stotelmyer on the Maryland Campaign (Apr. 10), A. Wilson Greene's Nye-Sommers Lecture on the First Petersburg Offensive (May 15), and Carolyn Ivanoff on Cornelia Hancock's Civil War at our Annual Business Meeting (Jun. 5).
Plus: We're seeking a new Treasurer and Secretary as Rev. Rebecca Myers stands for election as President of Campaigns 68 & 69; a roundup of regional events — including the National Civil War Museum's Community Free Day (where the HCWRT will be recruiting), the Gettysburg Winter Lecture Series, and talks hosted by the Hershey and Gettysburg Round Tables; and membership information.
