Our History
Founded in 1959, the Harrisburg Civil War Round Table has remained a steady and passionate forum for those seeking a deeper understanding of the American Civil War. While public interest in the war has varied over the decades, our commitment to historical exploration and education has never wavered.
Through monthly dinner meetings, expert lectures, lively discussions, and battlefield tours, we offer our members a chance to connect with the people, events, and legacy of the Civil War. Our meetings often feature nationally recognized scholars, as well as respected authors from within our own membership.
But we are more than a speaker series.
We walk the fields where history was made. We support preservation efforts at key sites like Gettysburg. We’ve placed historical markers honoring local Civil War figures and engagements, and we continue to contribute to the protection of monuments, landmarks, and relics that tell the story of that defining era.
Our mission is simple: to foster an enduring appreciation for Civil War history—and to provide a welcoming space where curiosity, scholarship, and camaraderie thrive.
Whether you’re a seasoned historian or a newcomer with a growing interest, we invite you to join us.
