About the event
Join us for our annual salute to veterans on Friday, November 13, as Gettysburg National Military Park Ranger Christopher Gwinn recounts the 1938 reunion at Gettysburg — 75 years after the battle, when 1,845 surviving Civil War soldiers, most in their 90s, made the arduous trek back to the site of one of their bitterest battles. There, in a final act of reconciliation between North and South, President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the Peace Light Memorial — on the very eve of the Second World War. What better way to honor our veterans than to witness this remarkable twilight gathering of the Blue and the Gray.
About the speaker: Christopher Gwinn serves as a ranger and Chief of Interpretation and Education at Gettysburg National Military Park, where he is a widely respected historian and interpreter of the battle and its legacy.
